Formed in 1978 to ensure that Torquay was represented as the premiere surfing centre of the state in all surfing events. The Torquay Boardriders Club has evolved over recent years into a family based club with participation by first and second generation surfers promoted, coaching and training programs conducted to ensure juniors are supported in their surfing development and well managed events are a priority.
Successful competition results in individual and team events fly the flag for the club, but a lot of work is spent on nurturing the club junior talent, getting involved with local government beach use issues, community involvement such as promoting surfing law actively and such programs as Sunsmart. Since 1993 we have been a member of the Bells Beach Management Committee.

A message from our club president @harry_mann
❌ Beaches are still open for Surfing & Exercising ONLY and we as surfers need to count ourselves lucky for this opportunity to do what we love.
❌ Members and the Torquay surfing community need to be setting the standard of doing the right thing
❌ Spread out and find a less crowded bank – We are very lucky on the Surfcoast we have so many surf breaks to choose from if you favorite spot is crowded go check somewhere else. Hunt up the beach if need be.
❌ at least 1.5 meters social distance needs to be maintained in the line up, the carpark, the lookout, everywhere.
❌ Surfing is very important to many us all, let’s work together and all do our part to ensure we can continue to enjoy the ocean in this tough time.
❌ An illegal gathering state wide is now 3 or more people. Go to the beach solo, get your fix and get out.
❌Spread out, or get out. Simple.

"We urge everyone to stay at home as much as possible and limit how often you surf"
Surfing Victoria
#stayathomeWe live in some challenging times. Most of you would have been following the situation around COVID19 and the escalation of public access restrictions. Unfortunately due to many people gathering at beaches over the weekend the Surf Coast Shire, Bass Coast Shire and Mornington Peninsula Shire (as well as many Bayside councils) have all closed beaches and the Victorian Government have now instituted a Stage 3 lockdown. We urge everyone to stay at home as much as possible and limit how often you surf. Things are changing regularly however at this point surfing is still be permitted as exercise only if you are lucky enough to live near the beach, however you must adhere to the social distancing and gathering rules set out by the Government - in other words: don't sit or spend the day at the beach and don't hang around in the carpark. We recommend surfing close to home, shortening your surfs, traveling to the surf in your own car, not sharing sunscreen, wax or towels and keep your distance from others in and out of the water. And most importantly if you feel like you are getting flu-like symptoms, do not go surfing and stay at home. We can all help to limit the spread of this virus by using common sense and limiting our interaction with others. For more specific information please visit your local council / land managers website and the Victorian Government website.

Life as we know it has changed and the goal posts seem to be continually shifting at a rapid rate. We need to embrace the change to #savelives . We strongly encourage everyone to do their part to ensure they are #socialdistancing in and out of the water. If you intend to surf, it’s probably best to head out on your own and if you happen to see your mates, please remember to communicate from a safe distance. It is very important NOT to gather in groups in and out of the water. These times will be challenging, but together we can make a difference. At this stage, keep enjoying the ocean to stay healthy for your body and mind, but be very mindful of your surroundings with #socialdistancing . And #stayhome other than when you are heading out to purchase essentials or keeping active 👌
